For over twenty years Kids and Traffic, the NSW Early Childhood Road Safety Education Program has worked with the NSW Government, Macquarie University and early childhood services across New South Wales to support the implementation of road safety education for young children and their families.
Now in partnership with AccessMQ, Kids and Traffic is part of Transport for NSW's (TfNSW) comprehensive, state wide road safety education program.
Kids and Traffic provides professional development workshops to early childhood educators and students and to the families of the children in their care. The Program also provides road safety education information, resources, strategies and advice to local government, health, early intervention and family support services and to peak early childhood and road safety organisations.
The Kids and Traffic mission is to achieve improvements in young children's safety in the short term and develop safe community attitudes to road use in the long term by:
- Increasing awareness of the need for road safety education for children and their families.
- Fostering developmentally, socially and culturally appropriate practices for the delivery of road safety education
- Ensuring that young children are given consistent road safety messages by both early childhood educators and families.
